How to Get to the Hungarian Parliament
The Hungarian Parliament is located on Kossuth Lajos Square, directly on the Pest side of the Danube. It is easily accessible by public transportation and within walking distance from many central attractions.
Public Transport Options
Metro
Take Metro Line 2 (Red Line) and get off at Kossuth Lajos tér Station, located right next to the Parliament.
Tram
Tram lines 2, 2M, and 2B run along the Danube embankment and stop at Kossuth Lajos tér. This route is particularly scenic.
Bus
Bus line 15 and trolleybus 70 & 78 also stop near the Parliament building.
On Foot
From the city center or Chain Bridge, it’s about a 10–15 minute walk along the Danube promenade.
Parking at the Hungarian Parliament
Parking directly at the Hungarian Parliament Building is limited, as the area around Kossuth Lajos Square is mostly pedestrianized and reserved for official use. Visitors arriving by car are advised to park in nearby public garages or street parking zones within walking distance.
Recommended parking options include:
- Underground Parking at Szabadság tér – about a 5-minute walk from the Parliament.
- Parking Garage at WestEnd City Center (Nyugati Station) – a 10–12 minute walk or 1 tram stop away.
- Street Parking – available in the surrounding streets, but spaces are often limited, especially during working hours.
Travel Tip: Since parking can be difficult in central Budapest, most visitors find it easier to use public transportation such as metro line 2 or tram line 2 when visiting the Parliament.
